The Judgment

Great Possession. Supreme success.

When strength and clarity unite — the brilliance of fire above the power of heaven — great abundance naturally results. The key is to remain humble, suppress what is evil, and advance what is good.

The Image

Fire in heaven above — the image of Great Possession. Thus the superior person curbs evil and furthers good, and thereby obeys the benevolent will of heaven.

The sun illuminates all things equally. The person of wisdom uses their prosperity and influence to promote virtue and suppress harm, acting as a steward of heaven's gifts.

The Six Lines

Line 1

No relationship with what is harmful; there is no blame in this. If one remains conscious of difficulty, one remains without blame.

At the height of good fortune, keep a sharp awareness of what could go wrong. Complacency is the enemy of abundance.

Line 2

A big wagon for loading. One may undertake something. No blame.

Resources are plentiful and the vehicle is sturdy. This is an auspicious time to take on major undertakings.

Line 3

A prince offers it to the Son of Heaven. A petty person cannot do this.

Great possession must flow upward and outward through generosity and service. The small-minded hoard; the noble give.

Line 4

Distinguishes from what is harmful. No blame.

The ability to discern and avoid what drains or corrupts great fortune is itself a form of virtue.

Line 5

Those who are connected to them by sincerity have dignity and are fortunate.

Genuine sincerity, not power or wealth alone, is what attracts worthy companions and creates lasting dignity.

Line 6

Blessed by heaven. Good fortune. Nothing that does not further.

Heaven's blessing flows to those whose greatness is matched by humility and right conduct. All roads open.
