The Judgment

Abundance has success. The king attains abundance. Be not sad. Be like the sun at midday.

Thunder over fire — the peak of clarity and movement together. This is midday, the fullest flowering. The instruction is not to mourn the passing of this peak but to shine in it completely, like the sun at noon.

The Image

Both thunder and lightning come — the image of Abundance. Thus the superior person decides lawsuits and carries out punishments.

At the peak of clarity and power, acts of decisive judgment — clarifying right and wrong — are most appropriate and effective. Use abundance for justice.

The Six Lines

Line 1

When a man meets his destined ruler, they can be together ten days, and it is not a mistake. Going meets with recognition.

Meeting the right person at the right moment — the connection is whole and complete. Going forward with this meeting brings acknowledgment.

Line 2

The curtain is of such fullness that the polestars can be seen at noon. Through going one meets with mistrust and hate. If one rouses them through truth, good fortune comes.

The abundance has become so overwhelming it blocks the light. Moving forward invites hostility — but genuine sincerity eventually wins through.

Line 3

The underbrush is of such abundance that the small stars can be seen at noon. He breaks his right arm. No blame.

Even more obscured — and the capacity for action is diminished. Yet there is no blame; the condition was not one's own making.

Line 4

The curtain is of such fullness that the polestars can be seen at noon. He meets his ruler, who is of like kind. Good fortune.

Despite the obscuring abundance, a kindred spirit is found. Meeting with a true equal restores the light.

Line 5

Lines are coming. Blessing and fame draw near. Good fortune.

Recognition and good fortune approach from outside. Welcome what comes; the abundance is ready to be shared.

Line 6

His house is in a state of abundance. He screens off his family. He peers through the gate and no longer perceives anyone there. For three years he sees nothing. Misfortune.

Hoarding abundance within closed walls — the family hidden, contact severed, the world shut out. This self-imposed isolation is its own punishment.
